Description
Timor-Leste became independent from Indonesia on 20 May 2002 and this first day envelope with stamps commemorates this day. It is signed by the then Peter Cosgrove and by José Alexandre “Xanana” Gusmão who became President of Timor-Leste. Peter Cosgrove was in charge of the peace keeping force in East Timor and in 2002 became Chief of the Australian Defence Force.
This first day envelope was personally signed by Xanana and Peter Cosgrove, likely in 2002.
Some of the charities who conducted fund raising auctions wouldn’t have the time or funds to frame items they received. You can frame it yourself. A nice inexpensive gift for someone who has an interest in the history of Timor-Leste.
